The view is stunning, in winter, snow capped peaks, spring, wild flowers,
summer, clear blue skies and gentle breezes,
autumn, dusk creates beautiful sun drawn shadows across the mountains
I purchased this olive grove without seeing it first, call it a hunch, I had made so many wrong calls in business over the years...so to me taking a risk was second nature..it could of been a big mistake, some said I was crazy......I was not....
When I first arrived here the views from all four sides were breathtaking, stunning and beautiful, with just the sound of the breeze passing through the olive trees and the gentle sound of birds singing. It was like heaven, the joy and happiness was immense, I could spend time here in a tent and would be happy, content, I still feel that WOW, arriving here four years later and will for years to come....
I would build my own little cabin, or The Olive Shed, a simple off-grid place to get away from the noise of our modern living where I would come and relax. India and Max my children hopefully would come to relax, laugh, enjoy the warmth of the sun, the stunning views and all that the lovely Crete has to offer.

'We need the tonic of wildness... we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because unfathomable we can never have enough of nature' Henry David Thoreau Warden Life in the Woods Since building the shed, I've been told that many locals have walked to explore this wooden structure which they call... το οικολογικό ρίξει τα πόδια, 'the Eco Shed walk' |
"I have been captivated by small houses. I spent 14 years while my children grew up in a small modern Swedish style house, a few fully functional rooms that where clutter free, we loved that house. Small houses evoke a feeling of comfort and security that larger houses often lack. Small homes shelter us while consuming fewer resources and demanding less time for maintenance and cleaning. They are both space- and energy-efficient giving us all more time to relax and enjoy life as a family." Heidi Berg, Sweden |

A big thank you must go to my new friends and
close neighbours, Marie-Clarie and Michael. They first came into my life walking their dog Maxi, they passed the Olive Shed build in its very early stages back in the spring of 2015, somewhat amused at me and my project of self building a wooden cabin amongst the olive trees. They have both seen its progress, over the years, as they return to Crete to enjoy their life on the island for six months of the year. They became and have been my eyes on the Shed when I was away. A big special thanks must go to Michael, he transformed this from a cabin to a true living space when he installed all of my off grid power needs in 2018, he literally 'gave me light'...... Note..April 2019.. I was sad when both Michael and Marie Claire decided to sell their house, I would miss them and Maxi the dog, but I was lucky that the new buyers Yori and Yoav fromTel Aviv would step into their shoes as my eye and key holder to report back when I was back in England.. They to have become close friends, together enjoying their food, wine and laughter when on the island...

I would like to thank Steve and Paul for coming over to Crete in May 2015 and spending 5 days helping with the installation
of the walls and roof boards, without their knowledge the walls would of taken so much longer to complete.
I would also like to thank Vasillis, his father Stamatis and his family for the way they first welcomed me to Crete while staying at their pension.
They have become great friends and have helped me with translations re water supply and so many other things along the way.
